Emily K - Support Worker
Emily K - Wyndham & West Melbourne
What are your hobbies outside of working?
In my free time, I like to keep things pretty simple and enjoyable. I love going for a swim, whether it’s just to relax or get a bit of exercise in. I also enjoy reading when I get the chance, especially when I find a book I can really get into. Watching TV is another way I like to switch off and unwind after a long day. Music is a big part of my life too—I’m always listening to something, and it really helps lift my mood. Overall, I just enjoy doing things that help me relax and feel good
What inspired you to become a Support Worker?
I was inspired to become a support worker through my sister, who has Down syndrome and autism. Growing up with her has truly been one of the biggest blessings in my life. She has taught me so much about patience, kindness, and seeing the world in a different way. Being part of her journey and supporting her has had a huge impact on who I am today. It made me realise how much I enjoy helping others and how important it is to make people feel supported and understood, which is what led me to pursue a career as a support worker
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was what my parents would call a real chatterbox—I could talk under water and would take any chance I could get to have a conversation. I had a big personality from a young age, always loud, funny, caring, and extremely selfless. I was a very playful and active child who loved being outdoors and having fun. We often went to Wye River for beach trips, which I always looked forward to, even though I had a funny little habit of staying on my towel because I couldn’t stand the feeling of sand between my toes
