Meg C - Support Worker
Meg C - West Melbourne
What are your hobbies outside of working?
Spending time with family, friends and my partner and our cats.
I also love my arts and crafts (beading & making cards in particular)
I listening to music, watching my favourite shows on repeat, finding a good coffee spot and spending way too many hours in op shops.
What inspired you to become a Support Worker?
Everyone deserves to enjoy their life. Along the way I’ve met many people, including family and friends, who simply needed someone to talk to and the space to be themselves. Every person is unique, and some of us need a bit of support, advocacy or encouragement to get where we want to be. Seeing people achieve their goals, or do everyday things many of us take for granted, are some of the best moments I’ve experienced in my life.
I wish to help neurodivergent kids and young people feel accepted and comfortable in a world that isn't necessarily designed for them. I also want them to feel understood in a way I never really did. This work is also so rewarding, giving me the opportunity to help kids reach their full potential and grow in confidence in a safe and encouraging environment.
What were you like growing up?
I LOVED to perform and create (hence my involvement in the performing arts!). I was often found making up songs and dances, completely redesigning my bedroom, op shopping (my obsession started early), making things, and mostly laughing and eating lollies with my best friends.
That said, I found it hard to concentrate at school, keep track of time (I was always late!) and regulate my emotions. It all made a lot of sense when I was diagnosed with ADHD later in life.
