Abby S - Support Worker

Abby S - West Melbourne

What are your hobbies outside of working?

I love socialising with my family and friends (with breaks, as I also love alone time), I like to exercise and dance. I also have a passion for cooking and feeding people.

How do you connect with young people?

I connect with young people by being approachable and genuinely listen to them. I take the time to learn what they are interested in and build trust that way. I make them feel respected, heard and supported. I also try to be funny and silly to amuse them!

What were you like growing up?

Wow that was a long time ago! haha just kidding. My fondest memories of my childhood were watching my grandma cook everything from scratch while she tells us stories. I grew up in the Middle East in the 80s where life was simple, we went to school then came home and played outside until bed time. We didn’t have toys or technology, so we used our imagination to have fun! I migrated to Australia when I was 16, which was hard but has built up my character and made me resilient and adaptable. Qualities that served me well as an ASD mum. I look forward to supporting other families in their journey, supporting the children to feel empowered and thrive according to their own strengths.
