Shae A - Support Worker

Shae A - Geelong & Werribee

What are your hobbies outside of working?

When I’m not at work, I love spending time outside, going on little adventures, exploring new places or just enjoying some fresh air! I also really like learning about cars, colouring in and being around animals. These things help me feel calm, happy and connected to myself again, especially after busy days.

How do you connect with young people?

I connect with young people by taking the time to really see them for who they are. I love using humour, play and gentle encouragement to build relationships based on trust and safety. Whether it’s turning something tricky into a game or just being a steady presence when things feel hard, I aim to be someone who helps kids feel comfortable to be themselves. Every young person is different and I do my best to meet them where they’re at, always with kindness, patience and respect.

What were you like growing up?

As a kid I was curious, imaginative and often full of big feelings. I always wanted to understand the world around me and cared deeply for others. I am a proud neurodivergent, which means my brain processes the world in a different (and often beautiful) way. Because of this, I really understand what it’s like to feel overwhelmed or to need things done a little differently. I bring that understanding into my work every day and try to create spaces where young people feel heard, accepted and celebrated for exactly who they are. My goal is always to be the kind of support person I once needed when I was growing up.
